Abstract
This proposed research explores how exhibition design relates to visitor engagement in South African heritage museums. It focuses on narrative clarity, object arrangement, interactive elements, and opportunities for personal reflection. Visitor observations and exit interviews will examine time spent at exhibits, understanding of key messages, and perceived relevance. The study aims to recommend exhibition approaches that support meaningful engagement while accommodating visitors with different levels of prior knowledge and varying interests.
